Brighton manager Graham Potter thinks his team ‘gave everything’ to beat Leeds United 1-0 away from home.

Neal Maupay scored the only goal of the match, giving the Seagulls a much-needed three points.

The forward finished off a great move from Leandro Trossard and Alexis Mac Allister which took several Leeds players out of the match.

Speaking to BBC Sport after the win, Potter said: “When you are playing Leeds, especially when we have had three games in six days, it’s not easy but the players gave everything. [They] defended well and attacked when we could. We limited a side that likes to attack so it’s a fantastic performance.

“There is obviously a bit of weather on the pitch which didn’t make it easy but we scored a nice goal. This team test you. To come here and keep a clean sheet is an incredible effort from the players.

“I think Jack Harrison bent one around the post but apart from that they didn’t have too much. The players’ effort was unbelievable so we are really happy. We are here to fight.

“We are halfway now. It doesn’t matter what the other teams do because we need to look after ourselves. We need to try to improve.

“The performances have been quite good but when you don’t win you are under pressure. That’s the Premier League so we have to take that challenge on and be brave.”

The victory puts Brighton on 17 points after 19 matches. They were desperate for three points after failing to win in ten games.

That run included draws against Sheff Utd and Fulham, matches which Potter will have been hoping to win.

The Seagulls did well to reduce the threat of Leeds’ attacking players. The Whites have managed to score freely on occasion this season, but defenders Lewis Dunk and Dan Burn managed to keep them at bay.

Brighton’s next match is against Blackpool in the FA Cup fourth round.

Leeds, meanwhile, face Newcastle on Tuesday 26th January.
