FORT BRAGG — As part of the ongoing pavement rehabilitation project on Main Street, new traffic control loops are being installed at the traffic signals. As the new loops are installed, the system will be temporarily taken out of service and replaced with a timer system.
The temporary signal timers automatically allow for the maximum amount of time in each direction, including in turn lanes, even if there is no vehicle present. The extended duration of these temporary controls is backing up traffic, particularly at Redwood and Laurel streets.
The city of Fort Bragg has released a statement asking residents to please allow extra travel time if drivers need to use Main Street, or to choose an alternate route.
CalTrans has indicated that the traffic operations will reset the control signals to the normal vehicular-driven cycles no later than October 16.
