Dare County Arts Council’s fundraising auction The Great Art Heist closes Friday, October 30 at 8 p.m.
The event launched on October 2 and has had an incredible response, including hundreds of bids from art supporters.
“Thanks to our generous community, we surpassed our first fundraising goal and have now set a new one,” said The Great Art Heist Event chairs Bea Basnight and Gail Midgett. “With only a few days left of this special event, we encourage you to bid and help us reach our fundraising goal.”
The Great Art Heist features almost 100 pieces of artwork and can be viewed and bid on online at charityauction.bid/artauction as well as in person at Dare County Arts Council’s Gallery in downtown Manteo.
Instead of its traditional fundraising gala, Dare County Arts Council hosted The Great Art Heist to support their programming and events.
“With the COVID-19 pandemic we knew having our gala wasn’t possible, but we also knew we needed to host a fundraiser to help sustain the nonprofit through this extremely difficult year,” said Dare County Arts Council executive director Chris Sawin. “We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to everyone who has helped make The Great Art Heist such a success, including the artists who donated work, our sponsors and everyone who has bid in The Great Art Heist so far.”
The Great Art Heist is presented by TowneBank, the lead sponsor of the Dare Digital Arts program, which emerged this spring as a way to celebrate and support the arts through initiatives that are safe, meaningful and innovative.
Sponsors include SAGA Realty & Construction, Jane Webster, Sun Realty and Midgett Insurance.
